Squamish ,un pueblo maderero o una meca de escalada??humm....por lo pronto una buena alternativa para la mejor escalada de fisura ......y otras cosas mas!!

Asi que despues de una conexion en Ferry desde Nanaimo..pude encontrarme con Paul y Will ..que me pasaron a buscar en el (Golden Chield!!) .Asi que a escalar , el primer dia directo a split pillar uno de los mejores dulffer que hice en mucho tiempo.....(Un buen dato llevar dos #2 y dos #3,para no estar arrastrandolo por 40 mts..;-)..y el resto de los dias se pasaron con los mas clasicos ..Crime of the Century 11b,Partners in the Crime 11a,Popeye and the Raven 10c,Yorkshire Gripper 11b....



Tambien tengo los mejores recuerdos de las rutas mas alpinas (quizas mis preferidas) como Angel Crest 10b en la pared norte del Chief,un viaje por una arista de varios largos y la mejor vista del area.
Primero un desayuno en el downtown y desde ahi caminado hasta la pared (quizas la aproximacion mas larga que hice en todo el verano...(35 minutos..nada no??)
Para este dia comparti la escalada con Carl Dowse que estaba como yo sin companero fijo ...







Otro lugar que mencionare es Exasperator 10c ,dos largos de fisura de dedos una buena escuela para sentir como marcha la "tecnica" del lugar...je!Bueno la epoca recomendada es siempre el verano del norte,sobre todo porque el principio de temporada (Abril/Mayo) puede haber bastante agua en la pared y el final (Septiembre /Octubre) es cuando se hacerca la epoca de lluvias...

Pero bueno no solo escalada es lo unico en el lugar...los senderos de bicis estan a full ...quizas otro paraiso en el Oeste canadiense para el MTB .Y para eso estaba el "Test of Metal" un clasico del crosscuntry que esta ultima edicion largo con mas de 900 corredores...tremendo..son 68km con todo un poco...Lo hicimos la semana anterior a la carrera con Sue y otros amigos "pro" y bueno las bajadas meten bastante miedo!!pero salen al final de la semana es como estar escalando un 7c+ de bici!!

Squamish: a lumber village or a climbing Mecca?? Hmmm…for now a good alternative for the best climbing fissures…and many more things!

After a ferry connection from Nanaimo, I found Paul and Will…who came to pick me up in the Gold Shield!! So then to climbing: the first day we went directly to split pillar, one of the best dulffer that I’ve done in a long time…(A good tip is to bring two # 2s and two #3s, so you’re not dragging for 40 meters ;) )….and the rest of the days we spent on the classics: Crime of the Century 11b, Partners in Crime 11a, Popeye and the Raven 10c, Yorkshire Gripper 11b…

My best memories are of the alpine routes (maybe my favorites) like Angel Crest 10b on the north wall of Chief, a trip for an artist of many lengths and the best view in the area. First a breakfast downtown and from there walking towards the wall (maybe longest approach I did all summer) takes 30 minutes…nothing, right? This day, I climbed with Carl Dowse who was like me, without a set partner…

Another place I’ll mention is Exasperator 10c, two long finger cracks: a good school to feel the pace of the “technique” of the place…haha. The recommended season is always summer in the north. This is mostly because the in beginning of the season (April/May), there can be a lot of water on the wall. The end of the season (September/October) is rainy season.

Canda resumen 2009

Well there’s not only climbing in this area. There are bike paths everywhere…maybe another paradise in the Canadian west for mountain biking. Because of this, there’s the “Test of Metal,” a classic cross-country race with more than 900 racers…incredible. It’s 68k with a little of everything…I did it the week before the race with Sue and other “pro” friends. Well, the downhills were pretty scary but we made it in the end.
