Todo empeso con una mala temporada de invierno en Bariloche....y dijimos : Bueno vamos a otro lado , que sea alto y que tenga nieve ..claro los volcanes en Chile por que no??Tienen nieve siempre y casi todos un centro de ski,asi se puede llegar en auto donde empiesa la nieve!!
Asi que ahi salimos...en principio hermaos cuatro ..Fede Arletti,Nahuel Campitelli y Bruno un Suizo que estaba de gira por los pagos......
Primer llegada al Osorno (2652mts) unos 1000mts de desnivel ,una cumbre l
lena de las clasicas "alas de angel"..con la mejor vista del lago Llanquihue ....una salida de unas cuatro horas ida y vuelta..
Tanto en este como en los demas volcanes es recomendable los crampones como parte fundamental del equipo....
Despues de eso seguimos mas al norte ,al Casa Blanca(1990mts) este esta junto al centro de ski y termas Antillanca.Quizas el mas tranqui de acceder pero con una perspectiva diferente sobre los otros volcanes de la Zona (Puntiagudo,Pu
yehue,etc)...aca tuvimos mucha suerte con las codiciones de la nieve y encontramos en las caras sur un perfecto polvo ..tambien nos juntamos con el resto de la banda que venia de Bariloche (Bicho Fiorenza,Mauricio Cadillo,Matu Kopcke,Santi Hardt)...un dia de sol y rayamos varias veces el lugar......
El viaje continuo hacia mas al norte con un cambio en el equipo titular quedamos con Matu por remplazo de Nahuel que tenia que volver a sus obligaciones....
Asi que llegamos por rutas secundarias al Mo
cho y Choshuenco(2415 / 2422mts)...dos volcanes que estan dentro de una reserva privada de 200.000hs ...un lugar super extrano entre hoteles de lujo y un entorno increible.
Tuvimos que pagar un permiso para poder ingresar al area de la reserva y asi poder subir al centro de ski donde salimos con las pieles hacia el Mocho....nos toco un dia de mucho viento pero despejado....quedo pendiente el Choshuenco ,y tiene un acceso por la margen Oeste libre de permisos y se llega a un refugio como punto de partida...
Entonces despues de pasar una noche de camping ...seguimos con rumbo al Villarica ,al cual quizimos en
trar por el paso de altura entre este y el Quetrupillan..hummm mala idea .Invierno y un cartel
que decia solo 4x4 ..y nosotros con Kangoo...bueno perdimos un dia tratando de escapar de la nieve los pozos y el barro....asi que a acampar y empesar otra ves al dia siguiente...
Esta ves si llegamos a PUCON y nos tomamos un dia de relax en las termas LOS POZONES ..
tremendo!! pudimos recuperar fuerza y asi el dia siguiente encarar el Villarica (2840mts) .Si no fuera porque algo me cayo mal la noche anterior (quizas el pisco mas el vino de caja es mala combinacion??) se podria decir que es una subida larga pero tranquila (me costo como tres subidas je)...aca las condiciones no fueron las mejores ,encontramos mucho hielo asi que la ultima parte fue de crampones de ida y vuelta antes de poder esquiar lo que quedaba hasta la base del centro de ski..
El desnivel total son unos 1400mts ,quizas el mas largo de todos....tambien se accede en auto hasta el centro de ski....
Creo que los volcanes en esta zona es una excelente combinacion de ski con buen acceso,termas,paisajes interesantes y un poco de vida salvaje.
Esta ves descubri un Chile distinto y creo que fue justamente por ir en todos los caminos secundarios (sin agarrar ninguna autopista) lo cual muestra un entrono mucho mas interesante ....hay muchos lugares para acampar libre,solo hay que tomarse el tiempo de consultar a los locales.El tema de los permisos es algo personal de cada uno
,pero recomiendo no consultar tanto en las oficinas de Conaff de cada centro de ski porque pueden ponerse pesados con el tema de equipo reglamentario.
Por lo demas lo que dije antes ,crampones un GPS puede ser util si se cubre de nubes ...y nada a disfrutarlo!!!

Everything started with a bad winter season in Bariloche…and we said: Alright, let’s get out of here! Let’s go somewhere that’s high and that has snow…Of course, the volcanoes in Chile! Why not? They always have snow and almost always have a ski center, so you can go to where the snow starts by car!
Se we set off for the volcanoes. At first four brothers: Fede Arletti, Nahuel Campitelli, and Bruno, a Swiss guy that was around in the area.
First we arrived to Osorno (2652 mts, 8700 ft), around 1000 mts (3280 ft) of slopes, a peak full of the classic “angel wings”…with the best views of the Lake Llanquihue…a four-hour trip back and forth. As always in the majority of volcanoes crampons are recommended as a fundamental part of your equipment.
After this we continued further north, to Casa Blanca (1990 mts, 6529 ft). This is right next to the ski center and hot springs of Antillanca. Maybe the most relaxed assent but with a different perspective over the other volcanoes of the zone (Putiagudo, Puyehue, etc)…here we had a lot of luck with the snow conditions and we found south faces of perfect powder…also we met up with the rest of the band that came from Bariloche (Bicho Fiorenza, Maurico Cadilla, Matu Kopcke, Santi Hardt)…a beautiful day of sun and we tore up the place.
The trip continued more towards the north with a change in the team…Matu stayed on with us to replace Nahuel who had to go back to his obligations…
So we arrived by country roads to Mocho and Choshuenco (2415 mts/ 2422 mts 7923 ft/7946 ft)…two volcanoes in a private reserve of 200.000 hs…a very strange place among luxury hotels and an incredible environment. We had to pay for a permit to enter the reserve and then were able to climb to the ski center where we went out in furs towards Mocho…it was a day with lots of wind but with clear skies. We stayed on the Choshuenco slope. It has an access on the west border where you don’t need a permit, and you come to a refugio almost as soon as you leave.
So after camping for a night, we continued in the direction of Villarica. We tried to go in on a high pass between Villarica and Quetrupillan….hmmmmmm bad idea. It was winter and a sign said “4 x 4s only”…and we were in a Kangoo…well we lost a day trying to escape from the snow, pits, and mud…so we camped and started again the next day.
This time we arrived to Pucon and we took a long day to relax in the hot springs Los Pozones…incredible!! We could recuperate and the next day we faced the Villarica (2840 mts/9318 ft). I would say it was an easy ascent, but it had been a rough night the night before (maybe pisco and boxed wine is a bad combination??...it took me about 3 ascents haha). There the conditions weren’t the best. We found lots of ice, so the last part was in crampons both ways before we could ski to the base of the center.
The altitud gain was about 1400 mts, maybe the longest of all…and you can also get to the ski center by car.
I think the volcanoes in the area are an excellent combination of skiing with good road access, hot springs, interesting terrain, and a little bit of wildlife. This time I found Chile different and I think it was just because I went on all the secondary routes without taking any highways. We had much more interesting views. There are many places available to camp…you just have to take the initiative to ask the locals. Regarding permits, that’s always a personal decision but I recommend not asking too many Conaff offices at the ski centers, because they can be annoying about regulation equipment.
But like I said before, crampons and a GPS can be useful if the clouds roll in—and they’re easy to bring along!
